Prayer Wheels

Prayer Wheels

Prayer wheel at MindrollingA prayer wheel is a spiritual device for widely distributing blessings and positive wishes for all beings. They range in size from small hand-held implements to large mechanisms such as the one pictured here. Lamas, monks and lay practitioners use the prayer wheel daily as an adjunct to using a mala (practice beads). Spinning the prayer wheel brings great blessings, and creates enormous and powerful karma. Many thousands of prayers written inside the prayer wheel exponentially increase the blessings as they are spun out into the universe.

Prayer wheels, such as this one, adjacent to the Great Stupa, have been built within the premises of the Mindrolling monastery for the monks and laity to practice Dharma and accumulate merit.
